Cat Lover

Got inspired looking at Shoomlah’s Hatshepsut and 1923 (also referencing the cat from the first piece), and wanted to take a crack at it myself, trying out a more stylized approach than what I’m used to. I’m pretty pleased with it!

Night Vale Community Radio Station

There is very little that can distract consummate professional Cecil from his radio duties, with one obvious exception.

Practice

Landscape Paintings

My landscape paintings from summer school. A lot of fun, considering I've never 1) painted landscapes before or 2) painted with oils.

I've been listening to the podcast "Welcome to Night Vale" recently and besides it being generally funny and charming, the best thing about listening to a podcast is that I can design how I think the characters look without too much fear about it not looking exactly like "[x] actor" or "[y] character model."

For example, I redesigned the announcer/radio host a second time after initially drawing him in the first picture, casting him this time as a NA, and using Evan Adams in "Smoke Signals" as reference.

Practice

A study that I worked on for fun of actor Tyler Posey (of MTV's Teen Wolf).

And a gif on some of my progress:

Jaime & Brienne's Excellent Adventure

This was the piece that was chosen for the AAU's Spring Show. Someone on the judging panel must've been a Game of Thrones fan.

Nature is overrated.

My picture needed a little more storytelling, so I added a spider (talk about suffering for your art—those are reference pictures I don’t want to look at again), and changed her expression accordingly. Being a forest/wood nymph is a lot more taxing than one might think; you take one nap and all of a sudden spiders are making webs between your antlers.

Blade Runner Redesign: Sebastian's Apartment

Sebastian's apartment from Blade Runner, with about 50% more creepy marionettes. Still a work in progress, as I'd like to tighten up the shapes and design elements a little more.

Blade Runner Redesign

Visual Development for Blade Runner Redesign

My semester-long project from my Visual Elements of Story class. I had a lot of fun playing with the different character body types. Rachael was actually inspired a bit by the singer, Janelle Monae, who uses a lot of futuristic, robotic themes in her music (and has made a reference to Do Android's Dream of Electric Sheep? in a few songs before).

Drawing From Imagination

My class on drawing from imagination is really pushing me to challenge myself when it comes to perspective.

I had Maltese Falcon running through my head (my school is in San Francisco), and decided to do a film noir type drawing for my one-point perspective street view, and then continue the theme for my two-point perspective interior.
